Avocado: The Good Fat

As of Tuesday of next week, most children will be back at school. For the parents, this usually signals the beginning of new routines and more focus on yourself and your own wants and needs.

If you are trying to make clean eating and the ketogenic life part of that new routine, I want to let you in on a not-so-secret weapon - the avocado.

Remembering Where You Came From

My husband just shared a memory on Facebook from last year when he had to take my son to the Guns N Roses concert as his plus-one because I was down with Mono. I was out of commission and remember feeling helpless and hopeless - sick beyond anything I had felt in years.

See, once upon a time, I was chronically ill, always fighting something or other. If it wasn’t some kind of virus or bug, it was something requiring surgery - 14 of them over 20 years, to be exact.

Weight-Loss, Wellness, and Well-Being

As far as I’m concerned, choosing to eat well is only the beginning of self-care. It’s a HUGE step and it lays the groundwork for us to make other changes in our lives. When we fuel our bodies with real, living food it elevates us to another level. It’s the launching pad for loving ourselves even more. It’s the “more” that can be challenging.

BPA and Other Endocrine Disruptors

For those of you who have just started my Zero to Keto program and have already dug into Week 1 homework, I mentioned getting a BPA-free water bottle in my first book, Ketogenic Solutions. I didn’t go into too much about the whys because there is a lot to it and I didn’t want to overwhelm you before you began. But now that you have your feet firmly planted in the idea of living clean, this is the time to dig a little deeper into this topic.

Exogenous vs. Endogenous Ketones

There is a new(ish) fad trending in the ketogenic world as of late: exogenous ketones. You may have heard of them or even know somebody trying to sell them to you.

I suspect I may make some enemies or lose some followers with this post, but I am here to be a truth-teller and spreader of information so if that doesn’t jive with you, then we can part friends - no hard feelings.

Coming Into the Light

It’s not an uncommon reaction to try to minimize situations instead of dealing with them head-on. Like, maybe if I’m really quiet, it will all go away.

What ends up happening to me when I do that is I start to feel like everything in my life is unraveling and I’m hanging on by a string.

If you are making some big lifestyle changes, this may sound all too familiar...

Life Challenges and Trying to Control the Uncontrollable

Over this last week, I’ve been dealt some seemingly big blows. At one point, I felt like the wheels were flying off and I was barely hanging on for dear life.

I’m in a better place now, thank goodness, but boy, when I was neck-deep in it, I didn’t know how I was going to be able to manage to stay out of the loony bin.

After hearing from some of you, I’ve realized I’m not the only one. I’m facing some personal growth challenges, as many of you are, and this has caused me to have a few breakdowns followed by some big breakthroughs.

Being Impeccable

I’m always compelled to write about what seems to be coming up in my life because I have found that there is always a message nestled in there for me to share.

Right now, I am encountering a running theme of dealing with vendors that promise the world and either don’t deliver on time or at all.

This has put me in an uncomfortable space a few different times now.

Weight-Loss Stalls and Plateaus

I know when I first started down this ketogenic road, I encountered blocks and stalls and couldn’t pinpoint the reason.

After three years, I have a much clearer picture of all the moving parts that need to come together in order to keep my body progressing towards health and a weight I am comfortable with.

If you are new to the keto world and haven’t had a stall or plateau yet, just know you will and it’s totally normal!
